EVOLUTION OF A CAR BY RANDOM CHANCE

What I’m going to do is very simple. I’m going to start off with a car which is shaped like a Model T and then I’m going to let it evolve all on its own. I’ll do this in the following fashion.

Step 1: Describe each car by its genes

First of all I’m going to describe the height, length and angle of the car’s key components, such as its roof, hood and trunk with numbers. This is not unreasonable as the length and angle of each body part determines the styling of the car. We can think of these numbers as the ‘genes’ of the car. They’re like the numbers on a blueprint drawing that tells the craftsmen how to fabricate and assemble each component. The picture below shows the idea with just a few of the numbers shown for our original Model T.
